    Hi all,

Please can someone help me identify the attached oil lamp that has been passed down to me? I know nothing about it or anyone left in the family to help.

    Thanks in advance.
    Matt

Hi @Mattygm Can you please take a better photo? Please shoot it looking from the side, not looking down at it. Also, please use a neutral background, something that will make it easy for us to see any pattern and the color of the glass. Like this:

that is not its shade !

either the chimney was straight in which case a round decorative globe would cover to difuse light or the chimney was bulbous as yours

Apologies for the delay. Please find side view photo attached. I’ll check for any wording in the wick raiser. Thanks

I found this about Phelps and Evington:

"Phelps worked for the firm of John Holgate and Co., which specialised in selling modern oil lamps following the introduction of the 'moderator' lamp in 1836. Since 1858 the firm was located at 20, St. Mary's Gate, Manchester. Along with his business partner, Samuel Dixon Evington, Phelps purchased the company in 1890, renaming it Phelps and Evington in 1894. The company imported and sold fuel and sold lamp goods, brass and copper fancy goods and bicycle accessories. Phelps sold his share of the business to Evington in 1905."
