I am helping my neighbor with some antique items she has. She is elderly and her husband had a stroke and she asked me to help find out what some items are and where we can ask for value because she needs to sell stuff to help pay for expenses.
She had it researched before but lost documentation. The only thing she can remember is she thought the makers name started with a "m". It is not marked at all. The image on the glass is slightly raised. file[1].jpeg

Meriden Britannia Co. Not silver. Tough to sell.

That is beautiful, moparbrian! And how nice of you to be helping your neighbor!

So, have you actually looked at the underside of this "basket" yourself, to try to find markings? Something this lovely really should have marks of some kind. If it really has no marks at all, then it would be less likely to be made of solid silver alloy and more likely to be silver plated and therefore would not have a "melt" value (as Terry has just posted.)

In Terry's neck of the woods it might be a tough sell, but I would grab it in a heartbeat!

    Hello,

I have looked everywhere. It seems @terry5732 new who made it right away. This is why I love this forum. I will let her know these details. She has a lot of stuff and I hope we can find that diamond in the rough.
She has 3 antique dolls. Is there a good forum I can post those on?

It's a late 19th century cake basket, but 'bride's basket' is a more commonly used term for it - Meriden Britannia is likely the maker, the 'Mary Gregory' type glass adds to its desirability...

Search eBay with the key words Cheryl gave you.

We have "doll" folks here too! Post them in Antique Discussion because they do not have their own forum.

@Bakersgma, if one does a 'reverse image search' on Google, do you know, or does anyone else know, if there are image size restrictions to post??? And of course I would ask permission before doing it.....I have "tidied" up around the basket.....but have the question first????

Is the glass part Mary Gregory?

komokwa The Truth is out there...!

    Ahhh the hard part !
There is no one to ask for value.
Fair market values can be ferreted out through searching sold items of the same or similar quality, from online sales...catalogs, auction house sales and the like.

This question was meant more for other members who know this sort of thing. Because I'm always looking at listings for cameos & people sometimes use the word 'cameo' in describing MG glass, I have learned how it looks. Since the owner said name of maker started with M, it occurred to me that's what this piece might be. You can certainly say it is in that style. It would take some looking into whether a match for the design can be found & what the history of imitators is, etc. Members here have an amazing amount of knowledge among them; hoping someone will be able to get a jump on this.

Found this on Pinterest, can’t link but they called it Middletown. Mary Gregory glass. Sorry this is so tiny, just how it turned out.
