I haven't been anywhere, nowhere to be, but some things are coming up. A dealer who specializes in guy stuff sells costume jewelry by bag loads, has a $1 jewelry corner. Spent $45, all costume, hoping to make a profit. Below, a strand of graduated cultured sea pearls missing a clasp, MOP strand, the leaves are a piece of a necklace I will fix.

    Next, earrings

These are some necklaces, bracelets (Juicy Couture, two Joan Rivers bangles, the coin bracelet is circa 1947 New Zealand, malachite and brass, Lia Sophia, Ann Taylor, etc.)

There was some signed designer Avon pieces in there. The KJL necklace seems to have a defect in the big red stone

Gotta love a good bag'o'stuff! Dollar corners are good too.

I got up at way too early o'clock to hit the only tag sale I could find. Spent $5, but got my sister a pile of British-made wool yarn, farbric scraps, a calligraphy set (new) and a sterling bracelet. Not horrible. SPent $4 at the next sale on a digital camera I hope works. Zip at the third one. The all the way up to a charity thrift, who were clearing out clothes at $5/bag. Bought a bag and got one pair of pants that fit. The rest of it is for my sister/niece and re-donation.

Went to an antique/jewelry store and mostly what I got was yelled at. The counter was covered with jewlery. "Don't touch that; I just bought it." (after he'd had half an hour to move it since I walked in the door.) Used my eyes, but couldn't resist explaining one amber souvenir necklace to the new clerk and lifted part of it up on the counter. (about two inches of a 24 inch souvenir necklace) "What did I tell you"...yadayada. I do the best I can, but you're talking to an overtired aspie playing tag with MA and a thing for teaching about jewelry... you leave a teaching tool on the counter and I'm the bad guy???? It's not the first time, so he darned well knew better, but I also knew better than to even apologize (also than to do it in the first place, but too late for that part). Spent my $20 and went home.

My latest finds. Not quite sure if the brooch is glass or jet - has some age & a few nibbles on the back edges, looks fine from the front but 20240831_173135.jpg 20240831_173022.jpg 20240831_173110.jpg 20240831_173301.jpg 20240831_173200.jpg 20240831_173403.jpg 20240831_173421.jpg 20240831_163525.jpg 20240831_162948.jpg 20240831_162937.jpg at just 50p I had to have it anyway! Just love the necklace - I'm building quite a collection of art deco jewellery.

I learned a lesson when I was at the dollar corner- always check the owner's cases first. An older guy, closer to 90 than 80, came in and the owner was practically giving him the jewelry. He got a Victorian GF etched bangle with garnets, missing one, for $25. The owner gave him a cultured sea pearl strand with a broken sterling clasp for $5. A shell cameo vintage compact, sterling rings, Native American pieces, all by weight. Guy spent $135. Ya just gotta be happy with what the universe gives you. I spent the afternoon fixing, cleaning, and researching the dollar pile stufg, and I will be just fine for the $45 I spent.

Jet. You will not see brooch findings screwed directly into the body this way.
Edit: you will not see it on glass.

Here it is. I'm planning to flip it, so not sure if I should leave the top hole, weld it up, or JB Weld it. 20240901_184902.jpg

I already hit the top with a wire brush and some flat black paint, because I'm hyper :)

The metal is thin, so I'm just going to patch the holes with JB Weld.

I think I agree with Komo. Just let it go to someone who wants to do the work themselves or want a rustic touch.
