Featured cupid? cherub wood carving

    Hi folks

    found this cupid or cherub carving / wall hanging in a charity shop last week for not very much (£10)

    anyone have an idea of age or origin

    Oak ?

    quite large 18 inches

    any thoughts or info appreciated

    Thats lovely Charlie ! I get a 19th century feel . Are those wormholes on the back ?

    A bargain, it is hand carved. A cherub rather than cupid imo. Looks mid-20th century to me. Charming.:happy:

    Not Oak,

    I asked my wood and furniture expert and he says some type of fruit wood

    Possibly pine. Would be fairly heavy for its' size if oak, and oak is absolutely punishing to carve.

    Am I seeing writing on the reverse Charlie or is it a case of
    pareidolia.

    Definitely not oak or pine. Fruitwood is a good possibility or, maybe, beech.
