Interesting engraving of foreign characters on one side of blade

I wonder have one have knowledge of the origin of this blade?

 

The shape of the sword, and the script, look like it might be from the region of northeast India/Assam/Nagaland/etc.

I keep looking here for that flat tipped blade....... but the handle I think is more asian..

 

It looks like Brahmi script to me. Brahmi script is an old Indian script, which is still used in some places. One of those places is Nagaland, so @2manybooks could be right about the item being from that general area.

The shape of the blade is pretty generic S and SE Asian. It could even have been an Indonesian klewang, which is used like a Latin American machete.
