hi everyone. i want to begin by saying, i had misgivings about posting this here, because i do not believe this bowl is an antique. however, i can't say for certain what its age is, and it is a thing of beauty so i decided to give it a try. also, since there's no specific forum for pieces of this sort, i thought furniture might be closest as it's made of wood. i hope no one is too offended. i found this in a thrift store. it appears to be black walnut burl. i thought the inlaid green material(turquoise?) was interesting. it's very finely turned with a beautiful feel to it. it stands just over 3 inches in height and 4 3/8 inches across at the opening. does anyone recognize the name on the base? i believe it's Dean C. does anyone know where i might go to find people with more expertise specific to this type of thing? any help would be greatly appreciated...thanks walnut_1.jpg walnut_3.jpg walnut_4.jpg walnut_interior1.jpg walnut_sign.jpg walnut_baseangle.jpg

Could be a local wood turner, maybe there’s a local group you might contact but can be difficult to find the maker due to maybe being purchased from a holiday destination and given as a gift to someone who has donated it.

yeah, i know this is sort of a longshot. i know there are some names of famous wood turners and i guess i was hoping someone might recognize it. based on what i know of wood turning, this is a very nicely done piece. but, that doesn't mean it couldn't be someone local...thanks

If you scroll down on this guy's site, he's inlaid a burl bowl with malachite - may not be the same wood turner, though.

You're welcome. Is that a signature at the bottom. Looks like "Dean"? Can't make out the next word.

I found this site ... if you can identify a name maybe they're listed. There's an email link, so maybe some ID help there. I saw some pretty hefty prices for those inlaid burl bowls.

Sorry, just read your reference to the signature. There is one Dean on that list ... not sure about the last name, though.

Yeah, it looks like Dean C with a long tail after it that could be the rest of his name. i'll try to find contact info. his name is Dean Grimes. who knows, a C and a G are similar. thank you, again.
