    Good evening
I visited our local "bootsale" market today and found this treasure. It is a combination of amber, handmade glass and what could be low grade silver or plated.
    Any information would be appreciated

Nepal, Bhutan or Tibet? I think...it's lovely!

The amber beads are not genuine amber, but phenolic resin trade beads, made in Germany. They were used a lot in Africa and the Middle East.

I am not quite sure about the exact origin of the necklace, but it could be Ethiopia, Somalia, etc. because blue is used a lot there, and the silver beads show some Yemeni influence.
If you google 'Harari bead necklace' you may find something similar.

Probably due to all those sellers out there who don't know ethnic jewellery, and call everything Tibetan because the name sells.:(

Tibet has always had a fairly small population, there were never enough craftspeople to have made all that jewellery wrongly attributed to Tibet.;)

The jewellery the Tibetans do make is usually excellent quality, often with high fineness silver and a lot of turquoise. Coral, amber and copal (pre-amber stage of fossilisation) are also favourites.

Nepal and Bhutan have styles related to Tibet, although Nepal is clearly a stylistic bridge between the Indian and Himalayan culture. Nepalese craftspeople are very prolific, but Bhutanese pieces are extremely rare.
