Australian Henk Guth painting I found - same on ebay?

Simply a Dutch name, Henk Gerrit Guth. Plenty of Dutch people in Oz.

 

Looks like you did well from an investment point of view.
This is very much a 1970s Australian painting, although many were better quality. And not as loud.

Australian light can be like that though, and it can make colours very harsh. It is very characteristic, for instance you can always recognise an Aussie movie by the light, before you've even hear people speak or see a typical landscape.

I think we've all gone through that to one degree or another.

 

Hahaa well not all great, interesting, or expensive art is "visually pleasing" in the same way. Some is intentionally not. I definitely would have missed that Highway Men painting, so I learned something from you! I almost missed a listed Haitian artist painting that I couldn't be bothered to lens, but my husband had seen enough similar work to know it when he saw it.

So it's less about how pleasing it looks, and more about getting comfortable with all types to be able to identify it. A lifetime assignment for sure! I agree the museums and galleries are the best place to go to make that assignment really enjoyable.
