This is a tough one. That bird (turkey or peacock?) doesn't ring any bells as an actual mark of silver purity that I am aware of.

The design does make me think possibly India, though.

I was going off peacock. Turkey did not occur to me. I do agree it is India like. On my searching this week, I came across an almost identical item, with a different peacock?

    Yes, that does look similar.

I guess since we just had Thanksgiving here, I had turkey on the brain! Peacock is much more likely.

Too much turkey does that to you, lol.

I will keep plodding along, one day I may find the answer.

    I appreciate your help.

This could be a mark of Lucknow of India. They used a peacock. According to the following web page Lucknow used 3 major motives: the jungle, groves of palms and animals. This could be one of their jungle motifs. Scroll down a bit and see the tea set pictured in the jungle motif in repousee & chase.

If it is by Lucknow, it may date late 1800’s to early 1900?

I really stumbled on Lucknow by Googling, India silver mark: peacock. Lo and behold it was the 1st link listed! If it had been more than the 10th link, I would not have tried it. I hope Cheryl peeks in on this query, for I am certainly not 100% sure it is Lucknow. There have been several threads over on 925-1000 mentioning Lucknow, but most of the pics are not up any longer. Cheryl probably was in on those threads.

Hey Susan - did poke my head in and saw that you linked to the same page I would have. Mr. Patel used to post occasionally on 925-1000 and seems to know his stuff. I'm not at home right now, but only have one little book on Indian silver and it's not one of Wilkinson's. Does look like a tea caddy to me...
