Porcelain Incense Holder?

This was given to me 40 years ago by a lady saying it was very old and valuable

Years after I though it was lost I came across it in an antiques book. But of course I didn't bother reading up on what I thought I no longer had

well we don't know what book...so a photo of the no markings could help us !

ya, we got that...except..the way a pottery was made can tell a lot about it........even with no marks !

One other thing. I'm not trying to get weird attention or be dishonest in any way.

The only thing I paid attention to in the antiques book was the value. It was in pounds @ 20.000

I know there'll be eyes rolling, and I probably come across as naive.

 

You're fine, @Incense. All new members have difficulty posting photographs in their first few posts. I've just taken the liberty of reposting yours as Full Image instead of Thumbnail so they're easier for everyone to see. (You'll want to remember to do that in the future.) Could you just confirm the measurements above? 4" tall but only 1 3/4" wide? And why do you think it's an incense holder?

Yes those measurements are correct. Also...
L. 3" at top
L .3 1/4" at base

I was on a Canadian antiques forum years ago where it was thought to be an Incense holder. They also mentioned it being Porcelain

 

Well, I dunno what it was used for unless you put a pastille in the top and burned it (sort of like an early air freshener). Usually though pastille burners are made like little cottages. Could be a very early porcelain, but I really don't know. Is that round piece supposed to be a clock/watch/clock pendulum? If so, it may have been a pocket watch stand. More questions than answers, but you may want to research early Staffordshire figures and wares. If you are on FaceBook there is the British Pottery and Discussion group. You might get more info or a research lead there.

 

Is something broken off from the bottom of the clock/watch/clock pendulum? It looks like something is meant to extend there.

I'm not sure if something is to extend below the pendulum. I do remember it showing exactly the same with that nub, in the antiques book

It was probably a 50-75 word write up on it, and I didn't bother reading a single word

The full sized images make it look rather homely and insignificant ...haha
