    Hi,
I just received a bunch of old stuffed toys and baby dolls from a friend who used to collect them. (Actually, she’s an artist and she collected them only to use in her strange stop-motion animation vids.) Unfortunately, she stored them in a shed, so many of them are in rough shape.

I hope to post several of the toys in the forum over the next few days

This is not my kind of thing at all at all.
Hopefully, there are some knowledgeable toy collectors who here can help me to identify their makers and their approximate periods of production, etc.

Here's the first one: an organ grinder's monkey - I think.

I searched this on Google Lens, and found lots of similarly dressed monkeys - especially by Shuco - but nothing with the same face.

This measures about 10 inches long.

It has a felt costume sewn over a tin body. The limbs are stuffed with straw.
(If the costume is original it clearly had a very clumsy repair - probably by some clumsy kid.)

This must have been a wind-up toy. I can feel tin cogs moving when I move the limbs. Maybe it was holding cymbals?

Thanks in advance for any info!

If you are looking to sell them online I would list them as auctions on eBay with the photos like you have shown above. I would start them at a very low price (i.e. $4.99 to $9.99) & let the bidders decide their worth.

There may be folks out there that would want to restore them but aren't going to pay top dollar to get them.

Thanks! The face is very close. That could be the same guy! (Same maker, different model.) I wonder how these things were wound up.

Yep. I do plan to put this on eBay. Just want to get the best info possible so that I don't misrepresnt it. You may be right about the auction. (But if there's only one bidder I'm going to go nuts.)

Here's a hare version (site says it's a monkey...) (there's also a bear), doing the handstand

    no info on mechanics.
According to various sites, the maker is Schuco

Thanks. Could be Schuco. They made a lot of similar models. I just haven't found a Schuco monkey that has the same face as this one's.

Google Lens also shows this one, that seems to have the same metal parts on the hands
