    Hello all.

Can someone please give me information on this hard stone scarab. I've searched, but comms re all over the place. Does this look antique? Any information will be greatly appreciated.

    Regards.

Looks like it is maybe soapstone or verdite. As you probably know there’s many many of these on the market and still being made and sold.

I don’t know how old this one is exactly, but I don’t think it’s antique. Does look to have some
age,but mainly it just looks as if it has had a hard life..

But other more knowledgeable members will know more.

It could be basalt, which often has olivine inclusions. The inscription is a more involved one than is usual on current day tourist items. May be the cartouche of a pharaoh. Not to suggest this was ever the property of an Egyptian ruler.

How big is it? Don't know what units your ruler is marked out in.

It's older, but how old is anyone's guess. Is the ruler marked out in CMs or MMs?

Right you are regarding the writing. I did not note that before.

Thanks everyone. The ruler is marked in cm's. I appreciate the feedback. Also just a note, I am in South Africa and found it at a thrift store in Pretoria.

The ruler shown in pix is marked in cm. By my count it is about 10 cm long, which is just about 4 inches. The other is similar in color & in having enough writing to require separating it into 3 registers. Basically, it's a paperweight.

I didn't really try to assess them in detail. Only noted that both pieces have some repetition of glyphs between the first & third registers.

And they both have that double scoring to separate registers, running lengthwise. When Googling I saw one that was partitioned by lines running side to side.
