This little box is 6" long and 4 1/2" deep. I couldn't resist it at the price, so I brought it home to do some further investigating. I think i see layers but not positive.
It is done very well either way.

I think it might be the real deal. I dont see them using metal and enamels on a plastic box. Its very pretty .I never see these whe they arent in sad shape.Get a soft brush and get that dust out and it will look so much better.

That's the right size for a cigarette box, isn't it?

Great look box and overall quality looks good. But could that pristine looking enamel not indicated a later reproduction/resin? Were the proper cinnabar boxes always enameled inside? (I don’t know, just asking)

However looking at it again it still does look old to me. I would also think ‘real deal’

    I get at least 3 'layers'...an' don't think it's resin.

@johnnycb09 yes this is all metal and heavy for the size. @Debora I think Cigarette or cigar either way.
    Thanks for looking

A lovely box, but resin, imo.:sorry:
Cinnabar lacquer is hand carved, with sharp edges. This looks molded.

Thank you very much A J. You know how much I appreciate your opinion.
It is a very good example whatever it turns out to be. I have now found several of these type boxes with the enamel interior. all have been listed or sold as the real thing. I actually think mine is most likely resin.
Here are some better pics after a little cleaning
