My apologies if this is not the right forum, but I couldn’t find one for dolls. This is a very old weighted doll. I have never seen one before. The dress is in terrible condition, but the little face is darling. Does anybody have any ideas as to how old it is or how much it might be worth? I’m selling it for someone who has also no idea, I appreciate all your input as usual IMG_1226.jpeg

I tried to upload pictures of the block underneath the skirt, but they tell me that the file is too large. It is just a solid block of wood covered in felt I think under the dress.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Is there writing on the block? Make the 'underneath skirt' image smaller by reducing the size to UNDER 1 MB............

She's a sweet little half doll. These were all the rage in the 1900s-1920s. You find them with lots of different kinds of bases including pincushions, whisk brooms, and solid bases (to be displayed), tea cozies, etc.

Most of them were manufactured in Germany and their quality varies widely. You find them with their arms extended (commonly known as arms away), jointed at the shoulders, with flowers or lace attached....the list goes on and on. The more elaborate, the more desirable, and the most expensive.

Yours appears to be from the later period of production. She's a "common", meaning that her arms are held close to the body and her modeling is simple. The painting is done with a limited color palette and is not done with a finessed hand, but rather a hand aimed at quick production. We don't give valuations here, but you can check the "sold" listings on eBay for a value. Hope that helps! :)

It's possible that she is marked somewhere on her back.
