Featured Age on this platinum emerald ring?

I was just wondering what time period you are seeing on this ring. It's listed as a 3 carat Columbian emerald with .30 carats of diamonds. I am thinking a corner may be chipped, prong seems to cover it, see corner closest to the bottom. Thanks.

 

A 3-karat emerald that clear would have me wondering if it's synthetic, or oiled or something.

 

I was thinking unoiled.

 

It has flaws, they said no damage.

 

And I can make an appointment to see it, God help me.

 

I'd have to be wondering... I don't think it's Old, but possibly vintage.

 

looks like a 70's cocktail ring........and I thought Columbian quality stones were darker......
I'd pass.....

 

hummm....I guess there is a color range ......lighter too....

 

Mom had good columbian stones..... and they were much darker than this....

If the price is right, you might not want to pass this one up! I see some jardin inside, so I think natural.
I would be interested to see if there is a maker's mark inside.

I'm gonna say it's earlier, maybe 40s-50s, based on the ribbon motif.

Yeah, starting bid is $800 with an 18% buyer's premium. I do think that prong is hiding a chip.

 

I also see a chip in the corner. I'd point that out to them if you do go see it.

One reason to hesitate, if this is listed on a site like Auction Ninja, most are absolutely no returns.

I agree with others that it's likely vintage. I would ask a lot of questions if you go see it. Was it appraised? How do they know the diamond carat count, and origin of the stone. Any guarantees with that description?

If it's the real deal, and you do bid, you might get outbid. I find that estate runners using Auction Ninja like sites where I live, put the word out to friends that there is a high end piece that's going to be offered. I can't stand bidding on those sites for that reason.

I believe some time in the 1970's a woman was making synthetic emeralds which had natural looking inclusions.The original samples she sent to GIA for grading were certified as natural emeralds.

Looking at the whole thing I would be VERY cautious. I don't see a gold mark anywhere, or a platinum one. Not something I"d buy without getting my mitts on it first.

 

They mention a P900 platinum mark, but I thought the mark mark for platinum is PT900? Or 900 PLAT.

Anyway, good thing you passed, @Marko . A chip is visible in at least one of the slides. Or, looks like one to me.
