Hello, friends. I've had this spoon for some time, it came in a bunch of things I purchased from a storage locker that contained glass, silver and ephemera from Finland. I think the name is Ilona, dated 20/5, 39. I have no clue what the mark is or where it might be from. The spoon is just over 5" long and it's rather light weight for the size.

    Any help gratefully received.

Ilona is the name of the woman to whom the spoon was given, probably for her birthday. Not Finnish, but I suspect Norwegian. I think we need Cheryl for a more definitive opinion because of the roses.

Finnish silverplate, the 'UH' is for 'Uusi Hopea' (New Silver), the 'Ho/y' mark was used 1920s-'60s by two makers, Hopeatehdas Oy in Helsinki and Harma Oy in Lappeenranta - without the town mark found on hallmarked silver, couldn't say which one...

Many big thanks for this! I may just keep it since it is plate, it's so pretty.

Sorry, my brain was taking a little snooze first time around.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

The spoon is lovely, @lvetterli Linda. Sounds like a good idea to keep it.
