    Hi everyone,

Sorry for my absence on the forum for a while, life happens and I’m trying to post more this year.

For those who have played before, it’s once again time for a silver game. For any new forum members, here’s the rules of the game if you would like to play:

Do your best to add your answers without spoiling it for others. Try to answer in a way that can help other members figure it out without giving away too much.

I came up with the game idea to help others spot clues as they are trying to find their own treasure. I’ll hold off on responding to the post until I feel like people who want to guess had a chance to respond.

Today’s game is simple, look at the photos and provide a numeric list from most interesting to least interesting photo. Feel free to add comments on what might be interesting without giving too much away. Here we go!

Is Photo A yours? It's really out of focus.

These are not my photos… ps I’ll talk about that after everyone responds. Personally I consider blurry photos on a listing to be a VERY good thing

I like G and H. Something about the color of the metal looks... 'right.'

I also want D. Just looks intriguing to my un-expert eyes.

    F is a no-hoper and A is hopeless. I already know what J is, so it's a nope. B&E aren't singing at me either.

I think maybe I also like G because sitting in that cotton bag, it looks like treasure from some old time movie or cartoon...

A (just because it shows the situation. Looks like an unsearched hoard)
    I Definite sterling in there.
B Intrigued by a few things
G Flatware is always worth a search
H Maybe some coin in there
C Shows some of the same as in B with a better look at one interesting item
D Crap shoot, the two large items are the least interesting
J Either a home run or a bust
    F Not too intriguing
E All looks like plate but who knows about one item.

    A, G, I, H,

I see some coin marks and shapes. I like the candles. Mostly I like the big old dirty collection that you know will have some good stuff in it. I’d have dove on it. I bought a similar collection recently with great luck. How much?

J might be a 50/50 split - I want to see what he got.

So happy to see you back Mr Nate, you have been missed:)
    I love playing these games:)
G, H, E, - I'd hope with the number of pieces there will be sterling in there:)

Thank you to all that participated, here’s some photos of what I got. I was immediately drawn to a few of the spoons that look like they could be coin silver. I worked out a deal where I picked up basically only the flatware and the candlesticks for $60 total:

    I'm late coming to this....Photo E

I've begun using the silver plate from my great grandmother's dowery. The knives, plain as the proverbial mud fence patented 1847 Rogers Bros, some just say Rogers. Forks from the same era. My grandmother was married in 1893, her mother (initials on some pieces) was married perhaps 20 years before that. My mother(born 1895)'s silver plate, dated 1909, (several sets of 6 teaspoons) was never used, I had to polish 110 years of tarnish to get to the silver.

So..... there was nothing else that looked intriguing to you in the other photos that did not pan out? Did you get to see the lot in person or was this an on-line sale?

Sorry for the short message, not too much time today, but I'll do my best to answer:

The listing was online, but I met the person local (if that makes sense).

I knew from the minute I looked at the photos how to approach the deal:

    1. If there was any real value, it was in the flatware.
    2. Many many many of the large items looked like junk.
    3. The listing states everything is plated...so I had to proceed cautiously. I didn't ask for any additional photos, and glad I didn't because that could have spoiled the deal.
    4. My plan was simple - get an agreed deal for all the silverware, and see if I can spot anything else when I get there.
    5. I probably spent ~50 seconds max looking through the bins, I wasn't really trying to mess around with spoiling my own deal. If I start flipping things upside down and scrutinizing pieces for marks, that might have made my deal for the silverware more challenging.

So mostly everything else looked like junk to me, I did smartly grab the candlesticks and a bag of napkin holders; my original deal was $50 for the silverware so those were added in for $10 more. I thought maybe there was a goblet in the photos that looked promising, but nothing else looked remotely interesting ---> I also learned from the seller he had the group posted for a few days and he sold some of it, and he only recently added in the silverware...
