Here it's more "good luck finding jewelry", especially at a decent price. One locally keeps trying to jack is up for big buxx on "designer" pieces that aren't even by the designers they name. Two Js in a triangle, for instance, is not now nor ever was Judith Jack.

It's true here. As I've said, they sell to dealers first, some have jewelers come in and identify everything (and I'm sure get the best sterling, gold, and platinum), they Google everything, even putting up eBay sales print outs with items...it's getting harder.

Where I am as well. I went to donate & saw 2 guys lurking & the person who works there saw me looking at them. She said to them let her finish bringing everything in then tells them well wait until she is done. So I asked her, she told me they buy & resell. I took my big box & left & told her I would no longer donate to them. It isn’t right when you donate to a non profit that they sell first to them the public second. They followed me back to my car, asked if they could pick through, I told them for a fee.

I have seen many things I have donated on the floor, clothing, accessories, small appliances, housewares, etc. I think the prices recently have gone sky high. Do they miss things, I am sure they do. The poor kid at the register left the register to be sure I was safe, after they declined my offer; the kid said that he thinks they also get some sort of kick back meaning the ladies in the back, which would not surprise me. I have 3 places that I was supporting via donations, I am down now to only 1. As the one of the other places I had accidentally donated some cookbooks, immediately realized what I had done & they refused to give them back to me. I have my one & I have actually reached out to a JCC that has a thrift; I will check them out although they are about an hour away I would donate to them.

    Hm.

Charity stall at car boot, I got there BEFORE the usual suspects and did a scorched earth. I was then a nice person and told a couple of people I like about said stall. One of them spent an hour pawing through it all.

Really well set out and everything priced. I did not haggle.

I had a few old photos and postcards at the flea market today and the guy said he couldn't sell me one in the pile because he "promised" it to someone who collects post cards with American flags. I declined all of the pile. I did get something valuable he missed, pics tomorrow.

I hit four tag sales today, including one that was actually a local antique/cleanout dude cleaning out. SPent under $50 and actually upcharged myself at the dealer's because ..well because. Two were nope/nadas but one had a cat. I forgive a lot for a cat.:cat::cat::cat: Pix when I get time and decent lighting.

I wish my local JCC had a thrift! I'd both donate and buy, and they're maybe a mile down the street from my house. Two of the best local thrifts were closed by the Pandemic for good. Worse, I just got confirmation that my local Ill Will is as bad as it is because anything decent is leaving via employee 5-finger discount. Never makes it to the floor; they still take Community Service "volunteers" and some of them were probably shoplifters. One guess. I don't go in there to source any more; there's nothing to find unless you get blindingly lucky.

I wouldn't have haggled either. I'd have been too busy scooting!

Things were slow northbound because in Wildwood there is a Trump rally today. I did pick up this old Chinese bronze coin bracelet for $2.50. The history behind the coins is fascinating.

The four old brooches are silver. The nice matte gold necklace is butler and Wilson. The rings are silver, and hallmarked nine carat gold on the wishbone one. And that gold brooch, yup, it’s gold.

The gold ring is extremely interesting shall we say.

The two squid ring? Something in the enamel design? (of an adult nature?)

It’s a zodiac sign ring. If it’s as old as I think, it would be contemporary with my pinchbeck necklace. It’s not marked, but I suspect high carat gold. It isn’t enamel, that’s reflection.

The sign with the 6 and 9 is Cancer, my zodiac sign. I can see the sign for Gemini before it, my three siblings' sign. We were all born in June.
