    hi folks

this was something i picked up at last weeks boot sale for peanuts

quite a nice large hefty one with enamel to the front

presuming its not silver as i cant see any hallmarks, but there does appear to be possible hallmarked areas to the side (very stubborn to clean areas)

was wondering the date to it as i see the old ones can do quite well

the heft of it makes me think quite old

just need to find a brandy one to complete chinoiseres's favourite tipple ;):dead:

    any thoughts or info appreciated

Most of the decanter labels I have had over the years , have been Sterling.

Boy, that's easy to date. Art Deco from the script, as above.

Very nice Charlie. I have had labels for booze a few times,, but not as nice as yours.
They seem to still sell ok.
    Much good luck.

That's a beauty Charlie ! The ones I always find are plate (damn cheap Yanks !). Def look good in Jeeves & Wooster's library (or Poirot's).

Also known as tickets. I had a plate one which I bought for fifty pence, once. It said READING on it. Sold incredibly well, it's hen's teeth.

Yeah, very deco font. Setting is older style.

Definitely looks like silver. You should invest in a silver test kit. You can get them for not a lot of money.

thanks obb, think that was what was confusing me, as i thought the setting looked older than deco

yeah i've had to do that before bud, but they don't last those ebay ones, and cant seem to find them anywhere else

    think the're £8 for one £11 for 2 :banghead:

i of course bought 2, and they both went bad about a quarter way down 1 bottle.
one hadn't even been opened and it went bad

Well I'm on my first bottle and no problems so far. I never realised it went off or had such a short shelf life.

No silver mark, so definitely not worth holding on to it.
You can send it to me. It will make my vintage port taste even better. :)

Maybe it would last longer in the fridge. Just make sure it doesn't get drunk by anyone.
