Featured What kinda knife is this ?

hi folks

something i picked up at a boot sale on monday for a pound

really should stop buying them, as if i put together all the ones i have bought it would look seriously worrying

but the fact i've never done that makes me think i'm ok

cant help it though, just find them nice objects.

thought it was a dirk because of the blade shape and sheath, but doesn't seem to ring true

leather sheath

partial serrated blade on one side

odd shape handle

8 1/4 inches

any thoughts or info appreciated

 

Looks like a Scottish sgian dubh, similar to this one -

just gotta catch one big enough to be able to gut

fishing is another thing i won't be able to do for a while though, and i love it in the summer

My first thoughts were "looks hand-made" and "that's high carbon steel, not stainless". If you scored a hand-made knife for a whole pound, who cares what it's for? I'd have nabbed first and figured it out later too.
