Hi it’s been quite a while since I’ve been here! I know nothing about these things and posting for a friend. If anyone knows age or where from possibly or anything at all that would be so helpful. Thank you!

Based on the ring, that seems to be a bayonet

For all we know it could be a nail clipper. :cigar: Any reason you are not showing the blade? Just asking for a friend. ;)

looks like someone took an old bayonet, maybe cut it down?,,,and added a belt loop to the scabbard ....
the handle....could be an add on.....looks mostly gone...and had a Japanese vibe to it...
I don't immediately recognize the marks...

Once again my Google skills failed me. But as a layman, I think you're right saying this is a reconstructed bayonet. To me it looks as if the wooden grip broke off and was replaced with fabric, making use of the catch to keep it in place.

The CGs (Coldstream Guards, Cape Government, Carlo Gnutti) I found don't seem to have a matching mark. And I have absolutely no idea what that mark before the B is.

Thank you so much Marote! Very educational and much appreciated. I feel like that extra piece of metal on top of the sheath, was added on later? I don’t know ‍♀️. I wonder how old it is and do you think I should remove the fabric to see the rest of the markings underneath?
    Thank you everyone

the scabbard still looks bust and a new loop attached......or may be from a different blade...
