Pouring with rain today, damnit. But yesterday was LOVELY. I bought an insane amount of stuff, including Tudric pewter. P1270605.JPG P1270603.JPG P1270604.JPG P1270595.JPG

Two little mysteries. The hamster? rodent? has an old FOREIGN label on it. A mere 25 pence. The scarf has an old embroidered Made in France 100 % soie label. And a nice fat hand rolled hem. Two quid.

The Tudric pieces are wonderful. The scarf wants to be Hermes but isn't. Pretty thing.

I’m very happy with the Tudric. The scarf is lovely silk and an old label too, I should have photographed it. It’s not Hermes, but it’s certainly a good maker.

No, no signature at all. It’s lovely silk, I’ll get a photo of the label.

Thanks for the Tudric pics! Nice find. As might be expected, rarely find any good A&C/Nouveau British metalwork here in the wild. There was that one Tudric/Knox inkwell I missed at a garage sale many years ago.... but that is another story.

I was boggled at finding them, I’ll admit. Grabbed very fast.

They might turn up here if only because no one knew what they were. These days though in the age of Google Image search those finds are fewer and further between.

IMG_5674.jpeg I got this incredibly beautiful snuff box depicting Hebe and Jupiters eagle. The base material is copper, it's lacquered with urushi and inlaid with mop. The mop is underpainted with ink and different gouache? colours. The grey metal frame was specifically made for this box, also an even earlier nailed in brass strip, both to reinforce damaged areas.
This piece was probably made in Kyoto in the 1780/90s, made to order by an employee of the Dutch East India Company (VOC). Only three of these boxes depicting ancient greek figures / gods are known, four with this one.
The three others are bigger, but not underpainted with colours (only ink), though.
There are certainly some more pieces hidden in private collections, like this little gem was.
There are also similiar boxes depicting
Napoleon, several nobles and even masonic symbols, some which are also underpainted.
All of these are tobacco / cigarette boxes and about 12cm to 20cm+ long with this beeing the smallest one known (<8cm long).

Found some sterling mixed in with silverplate.

The two bracelets are stainless, company Q Ray, pricey retail. The other cuff I believe to be sterling, it's the Serenity Prayer graffiti style.

The necklace was marked 925, I had my doubts, but for $6, I took a chance. I found only one similar.

For reference only, not my auction.
