Featured Oil painting from home clearing

Hello community!
I am looking for help with this painting. Oil on canvas. No signs on both sides. But there is old stamp on canvas, I can’t read it.. the bottom world is “London”.
Beautiful work and very good frame.
Found In Leicestershire, England.
Size of frame is 94x84 cm. And there is label on the frame as well. But no information online about that frame makers.
So we have oil on canvas from London and Sheffield frame. Probably Victorian era. But could be earlier.
Will be appreciate any thoughts and ideas. Thank you!

 

The canvas makers name is Geo Rowney & Co,and that particular stamp with the two addresses of 52 Rathbone Place and 29 Oxford St .W. London.were in use from1862 -1881.There are a few stamp variations and your painting would seem to have been painted late 1870s early 1880s.

Hoop skirt is from early in that period. 1860s.

Not much information regarding George Biggs carver & gilder at that address in Sheffield.Only info I think might pertain to George is through ,who I beleive was his brother Alfred Biggs,.In the1861 census Alfred is recorded as carver and gilder employing 6 men and 1 boy at Conduit St,and his household included his mother Charlotte and his two brothers George and Walter,both listed as commercial travellers.Albert was subject to debt proceedings in 1868 and George is not listed as living in Conduit St in the 1871 census.His younger brother Walter is listed in 1881 census as a fine art dealer,but no mention of George.

 

Found a listing for . George Biggs& Sons Carvers,Gilders & Mount makers,92 Division St & 38 Trafalgar St Sheffield on page 409 of Sheffield Directory on University of Leicester Web site but no year given,maybe someone may be able to get a year for that entry and when that business was in operation.

 

Just an update,Geo Biggs & Sons .Carvers and Gilders listed in the Sheffield Directory 1879 Ed at 92 DivisionSt and 38 Trafalgar St.This listing covers the years 1870 to 1879 so most likely time frame for your painting.

It’s a shame that painter didn’t leave any sign and that something we will not find out. But thanks to you, now we know details about canvas, frame, other names and dates. That’s amazing.

 

The image is symbolic. If you do an internet search for "Victorian canary cage," you'll find information to interpret.
