Some of us really like portrait cameos. Here's one that sold this morning on Ebay and was signed "Barbati"? I researched Barbati, but couldn't come up with any book listing for him. It commanded quite a high price ($560). Does that name ring a bell with anyone?

@Bronwen Are you still collecting pictures of portrait cameos for your Pinterest boards? There have been many recently. If so, let me know and I can post them here for you.

The value of my collection is looking up. I have a handful of examples in my files, including one that lives with me.

Wish Tenant's had photoed the reverses:

Guy on left looks a lot like my guy:

Wonder when Barbati stopped signing on the back & started to put his signature on the front at the truncation.

After starting at 10 GBP, driven up by 11 bidders. There was a time when sellers could barely give away male portrait cameos.

It was an ad for an anorak in pale pink. Language might have been Romanian. But what does the adjective 'barbati' mean? 'Bearded' would have been my guess in a different context.

Just ran it through a translator. Romanian for 'men's hoodie'. So are men 'bearded ones' over there?

I also got a translation of that word meaning "Barbie" (this was in Google translate). Barbie's favorite color is pink... not sure, though!

I also got the "men's hoodie" translation.

Hello, It is hard to work out what the marking could be as it has worn out completely ,although in some lights you can see that there were other letters. There is a definite 'O'
and then what looks to be an 'R' or a 'H'. It does not have any visible stamps to indicate what metal the band is.It looks silver but is quite a lite ring.

Welcome, ktireland. Does the ring have a cameo in it? We're going to want to see the whole ring. If there is not a cameo, I suggest you start a thread of your own in the Jewelry forum so that more people will see it. This is kind of a specialty corner not everyone with an interest in jewelry looks at.

Sorry, Kate. I got Barbati-ed out & forgot about your original post. I have no understanding of the ring's marking, but suspect it is white gold, very popular in the 20s & 30s.

Aaah okay. It's actually an "OB" probably for the maker Otsby Barton. About 1930. It is probably white gold, maybe 10k or 14k, which I think I see a hint of that mark after the OB but it's too dark to tell.
