Someone took the seat off the front. Odd.

Verybrad, re: enigma - I had an idea. It reminded me strongly of custom cabinets that one sees in homes of ultra rich robber barons whose homes have become museums. Think the Breakers in Newport RI, or Stan Hywet, the Seiberling mansion in Akron OH. The utilitarian spaces in these homes look like nothing else I’ve seen anywhere else ever. They stored things no one uses anymore in quantities that don’t make sense today. Maybe this piece was for petticoats and whalebone corsets. Make up your own scenario!

A few interesting things seen this past week or so.

These two old wicker tables were $10.00 each. The one has had the wrapping removed from the legs but still a good useful table. The second one was really in pretty good condition other than needing a good cleaning.

This small cedar chest probably dates to the teens or early 20s. A bit different style-wise and heavy as heck. The very good condition probably makes the $70.00 price worth it.

    thriftchest15.jpg

This mission oak chair was only $20.00. Catch is, the rockers have been removed and it sits quite low. Probably not a big deal to replace the rockers, as the legs still had the slant cuts, but a project nonetheless. Besides, not a Stickley or other known brand. Was gone in a couple days.

    thriftchair28.jpg

This Eastlake parlor set is in pretty good condition. The wood needs some sprucing but I am sure it could be made to look a lot better easily. The upholstery was also good other than some loose strings to trim and some gimp to replace. The chair is $30.00 and the setee is $50.00. Both still there a week later.

Lastly, this over-the-top sixties glass coffee table is in very good condition. It is in a small town Goodwill way South of here so I expect the $150.00 price tag too ambitious. Might take a Chicago dealer to come through and snatch it up.

It is so sad to see alot of these beautiful pieces just sit. My wife and I bought a beautiful chaise from GW for.... $7.

The Eastlake rocker needs a pregnant woman to come see it and snatch it up. Those old spring rockers are great for babies. Glider rockers too - butt-ugly but they work. The mirrored table is in the wrong market. It looks like stuff my friends' grandparents had back in the 70s. A furniture dealer with a brain ought to go out where Brad is with a trailer and just start filling it up.

This mirror , while from a different thrift a hundred miles away from the above glass table, sure looks like they could be from the same house..... LOL :woot: Was priced at $129.00.

This oak side by side was priced to move at $150.00 and it sold quickly.

Those side by side things look funny, but they're darned useful in a small space. I'd think the mirror was in the bedroom of the house with the mirror table.

My local ReStore has been selling all NEW furniture recently. They bought out a store going out of business from what I'm told. The things they price to move sell rapidly. THe things they price "well it's a bargain at $xx.00" tend to sit. And sit. I'm sure not spending 10 cents on any of it.

That over the top 1960's coffee table would last about 5 minutes here for $150.

The top on Brad's table looks like it was used early and often. The design would sit here too, but in California? Gone in 60 seconds.

Few more things to show. This trunk is in good original condition. Priced $45.00 and still sitting after a week :(
    thrifttrunk5.jpg

This waterfall chest of drawers is $20.00.
    thriftchest16.jpg

This is so ugly it's cool! Granny's chair from the 60s in great condition. $25.00.
    thriftchair29.jpg

These last two were bought from a dealer/friend for $150.00 for both in a package deal. They originally came from the thrift stores and I doubt my friend made much on them from me.

You might remember this being posted very early in this thread. It was $150.00 when I posted it and I have to assume my friend got it for less. She removed the buckled veeneer on the drop-front and used a graphic black and white stencil of foliage on it. She tried to sell it for over a year with no takers, saying people either loved or hated the graphic. I am just glad she didn't paint the whole thing, as I plan to re-do the drop-front. Think my sister is taking this once I get it done.

This piece knocked my socks off when I saw it in her store. It is big and bold! Two separate pieces and heavy as heck. It has a partial label in one drawer that I haven't had a chance to photograph or research. Possibly Showers Brothers from Indiana but I can not find anything from them that matches. I plan on using this for myself, replacing my current dresser.

That dresser is spectacular. I wouldn't mind having that either. Granny's chair up top wouldn't be in the store 24 hours if it were here. Might not get all four feet onto the floor nearer New York/Los Angeles. Some maximalist decorator would have it gone in 60 seconds.

I bet the drawers on your dresser pull out real smoothly Brad.

    Some things seen this week....

This 50s maple dresser was only $35.00. What looks like damage on the drawer front, is just a smudge that will wipe right off. Still sitting, as of yesterday, over a week now. I know this would fly out the door most places.
    thriftdresser13.jpg

This 20s server was $40.00. Really in very good condition.
    thriftbuffet3.jpg

This school desk is a bit different in walnut. Has a door on the right instead of drawers. Opens to reveal a shelf that pulls out and pops up for a typewriter. Also $40.00.
    thriftdesk9.jpg

Not antique but a nice solid cherry desk. The top has been stripped and sanded in front but that is an easy fix. The styling is an odd mix of Shaker and Mission. Bob Timberlake for Lexington furniture. I am sure this was expensive when new. What else?..... $40.00.

I was not about to let it get away..... I've used it every day since...
    It's an old friend!:joyful::joyful:

Some interesting things seen this past week or so. I did not buy any of them, despite being tempted.

This art deso desk was $30.00. Killer bakelite handles are worth the price alone.
    thriftdesk11.jpg
    thriftdesk11a.jpg

This pair of chairs are older and nicer than usually seen. $30.00 for the pair. A bit higher than I usually see chairs priced in the thrifts.
    thriftchair30.jpg

This walnut work table is mid 19th century. Priced at $20.00
    thrifttable21.jpg

When I first saw this across the room, I thought 70s or so. Didn't even go look. A week later it was still there so decided to see how much they were asking, thinking it probably priced too high. To my surprise, this is a mid 19th century piece and was priced at $250.00. Quite reasonable for what it is and the very nice condition. Have to think the large size off-putting for most. Was sold the following week.
    thrifthutch2.jpg

Hardly ever see any divans as nice as this one. In walnut to boot. Upholstery is even quite serviceable. Priced at $99.00.

That’s a cool little desk (looks to be a nice manageable size) And that divan is classy. I would have been tempted! Thanks for showing us.

Actually, the very large sideboard and hutch is the one I had a hard time passing by. Just don't often see them much. The shallow depth on it was particularly unusual.
