That’s what I thought too but I wasn’t confident enough to type it.

    Yes, "DEPOSE".

    https://www.josephjewelry.com/guide...xt=de·pose | di-,translation is "hand made."

Not sure if that gets us any closer to figuring out if it's silver or not, but...there it is for what it's worth.

For what it's worth - the handle IS cracked in some places, which to me would suggest silver, since silver was usually rather thin. Brass or nickel is obviously cheaper, and would've been thicker and less resistant to splitting...?

It says in the link: "The literal translation is "hand made.":banghead::banghead::banghead:
Total nonsense, déposé means that the design is registered. It is a term used in European French speaking countries and regions for any registered design in any material, whether hand made or not.

Since it doesn't have French assay marks, it could be Belgian. Belgium was one of the driving forces in Art Nouveau design.

Any verdict reached yet, ladies and gentlemen of the jury?

Silver? Plate? Pewter? Recycled soda-cans? Tin-foil? Unobtainium?

You are the only one who can test it, or have it tested.;)

Yeah. Unfortunately the place I usually go to for that is closed at the moment. Will need to be next week.

Still no better look at the possible mark to the left of the EG mark? Here....

Here's a few better photos. I used the macro-lens on my phone to try and get as close as possible.

Just not a lot there. Does seem to be a roughly diamond shaped mark of some kind.
