Featured Alberto Vargas

Best know for his pin-up art like this ...


He also painted portraits.

One such portrait popped-up for sale, but I think the seller has not investigated beyond hopefulness.

Without image searching, which of these contestants was likely not painted by Vargas and why do you think so?

 

3, it’s in the eyes and skin tone, hair highlights. However what’s with the Adam’s Apple?

thinking of pin-ups, 1 seems a bit over dressed as well…..

Trick question? No 3 looks less ‘pin-up’ and more life-like. But also no 1.. looks ‘off’ to me,less refined than the others. Actually 1 looks like a man/drag queen to me.

#1 doesnt have the softness the others have. #3 looks like Lady Mary from Downton Abbey !

 

Imma say #3 as well, as she somehow looks 'earlier' to me than what I think of as pin up art. Could be wrong!

 

Vargas is my favorite pin up artist by far. It's number 3. Same style, same handling of the medium and volumes, same artistic quirks.

1 is caricatured in a different way. 2 is a modern style.

It's the sternocleidomastoid muscle attached to the sternum.... Or at least the artist's attempt. 2 and 3 have a better representation.

 

I will not yet say if anyone has made the correct choice or assertions. Good conversation and observation with get there.

You are allowed to change your answer if you feel the following helps.

I understand that some of you may not know his work very well. Just start a visual process of elimination.

The pin-up is by Vargas. It shares artistic characteristics strongly exhibited in at least one of these three. Who of the three is most similar overall? Do not answer aloud.

Continue the process using pin-up and the one you chose against the remaining two.

This approach may lead you to the image least likely painted by Vargas.

well I am just going to guess. No 1 had an enlarged thyroid... or an adams apple.
No 3 looks angry
No 2 looks like a glam girl but not sure.
I will go with no 1 is not by the artist

 

might I add, someone gave #1 a black eye. So, will the real phony please stand up………

 

I'm also saying #1 is not by Vargas. Just because she stands out as odd. But you could say that about #2 as well.

 

i reckon number 3 (is not), unless that one was one of his portraits

first two are more glam, with more defined eyebrows

 

The them in green is not a Vargas painting.

 

I'm glad that I selected the images that I did. I knew that 1 and 3 would make you think it was one of them. Number 3 was made by someone that could paint a portrait. Number 2 is also made with the same skill, but more illustrative. Number 1 is illustrative, but the artist is not as advanced as Vargas in laying down paint or painting a face in a realistic way.

You're not supposed to rely on the signature, and this signature, for me, seals the deal. At best, it's in the manner of Vargas and maybe $100 - $200.

Looks more like Ida Lupino. And such an interesting example of how a seller acquires an item, makes some faulty assumptions and then, with the help of the internet, convinces himself they're true. We sometimes see that with new members here, people who join looking to validate their conclusions. And, despite best efforts, there's no telling them otherwise.
