Bought this spoon today (and by 'bought', I mean it was priced at 0.50 EUR and I got it for free, with a record player I bought :D)(and in the latter case 'bought' really means 'bought' :(, but still a good buy :))

I read just now that Venetian Silver isn't really silver, but just a nickel silver alloy. Is that correct?
And I haven't been able to find a spoon with the same design. Any idea how old (or new) this is?

    Any thoughts regarding the age?

I went through some references I thought would have other names like this, but can't find them. But my guess would be roughly 1900 or earlier.

I knew that one of the other marks I was looking for was Alaska Silver and I found it online with the sort of information as you already got about Venetian.

"Venetian Silver" was a trade name used by the Birmingham (England) company Deykin & Harrison for their proprietary white metal alloy. From D&H's history and the design on the spoon it probably dates to the 1930s.

Thanks! I had found that Deykin info, but I thought those would have their marks, like this one

or did they also produce items without those marks?

That Deykin mark is for silverplate, Venetian is not silverplate.

Aparently they had plain Venetian Silver and silverplate Venetian Silver.
And of course I found the cheaper one

Is Venetian Silver safe to use? I read different things about nickel. Some say it's safe, others say you shouldn't use it for food...
