The dark isn't the sky, it's the trees/shade (or city... Since it's the park?) in the extreme distance, to match the line of shade on the underside of the trees. He could have gone yellow with that to stick with his abstraction, but the focal point would have gotten lost I think.

Yes, it's a band of darker foliage. Serves to anchor the perspective. The top of your "smokestack" is the painting's vanishing point.

    Few more.....

This small-ish Mexican (Mayan?) painting on suede leather has been sitting at the thrift a month. Bought for half price, so $3.00.

Large 41" x 36" painting by well-known AZ artist, Kyllan Maney. Looks to be acrylic on paper (or maybe artist board). Bought for $7.50.

Lastly, this etching is by Louise Lochhead Luthi. It is numbered 1/25. I can find virtually nothing about the artist. However, this exact etching is held by the Kemper Art Museaum at Washington University, St Louis. Bought for $6.00.

    Couple of Sunday picks.
A large abstract still life by Jaime Oates, a Spanish/Mexican painter from Taxco. Titled verso “still life w/oranges”. $50

This unframed Annabelle E. Williams Vermont winter scene was from another house clear out thrift shop. They have hundreds of cheap cruddy pieces of art on their walls priced $50-$200 and the best piece they had was on the floor for $10.

Some decent finds this week. There was a large group of corporate art donated to the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store. Much of it was overpriced by thrift store standards in the $80.00 range. There were a few good pieces in the lot that were relative bargains.

I picked up these two large hand colored etchings by well-listed artist Robert Kelly (b. 1956). Both are in a numbered edition of 100 and signed by the artist. Both have Marsall Erdman and Associates provenance on the back. Ironically, despite being identical in size and framing, one was priced $15.00 and the other $35.00. There was a third priced $50.00 that I did not buy. The management would do nothing to reconcile the prices. I probably would have bought quite a bit more if I could have gotten them all down in the $25.00 range. I will probably go back in a couple weeks when prices will drop to see what is left.

I found this large watercolor at a different thrift. As can be seen in the first picture, the glass is broken and the painting has slipped down below the mat. I could not see the signature but thought it good enough to spring the $8.00 asking price ... LOL! Turns out it is by well known MI/IA artist, Rein Vanderhill. It is a bit different than his current work but is typical of his Lake Michigan shore paintings done during his MI years.

Photos are not the best. All three of these works are large and the best place to shoot them was laying in the driveway. We had full sun so they are a bit overexposed.

Same here. The prints don't ring my chimes at all, but if Brad can turn a buck on them i like them fine!

Agreed. I really like the watercolour too. I think the detail is very good. Great contrast along the water edge.

Just a pleasant unsigned charcoal/chalk portrait. Label inside from Frederick F. Hunt of Portland, ME. circa 1865. The wavy glass and frame is worth the $18. I paid. Nice size at 24-1/2 x 20-1/2.

My guess is it's some sort of engraving with enhancing done by hand.
