Pin marked Made in China and SILVER. But what's in the center?

    This came in a large lot of jewelry and smalls. Is the center some kind of stone or glass?

    I was about to say agate and saw your comment, just searched and find out carnelian and agate are actually different stones!

    Absolutely carnelian, which was used a great deal in pieces like this. I’ve got a few.

    They're both the same mineral: translucent microcrystalline quartz, chalcedony. Agates are types of formations, not a type of mineral; carnelian (also cornelian) is chalcedony when it is some shade of this color. A banded agate may have bands of carnelian.
