base metal tag on a gold chain-why?

It's me with my silly question on this 9ct gold chain again. So, I actually burnt my thumb to proof the innocence of this chain, and with so many links tested with acid I can finally confirm this is solid gold, almost one step away from dipping it into a bowl of acid! But one strange thing remains: there's a tiny tag soldered to the first link, where you would expect a purity tag. But that tag is obviously base metal and reacts violently with acid.

If it's a solid gold tag on a fake chain, logically makes sense to me. But why a base metal tag on a solid gold chain? Has anyone seen anything similar? 1.jpg 2.jpg 3.jpg 4.jpg
