Greetings! Picked up this beauty and would like some information on the maker (importer?) "J C Reither and sons, brooklyn ny" (perhaps Reitner?).
Burl veneers over walnut with pine secondary and belly drawer.
Has a mirror under the lid, the angle of which can be adjusted with a brass slider. If I didn't see the stamp in the drawer I would have thought it was an English import.
Looks like an early 20th century factory piece to me, anyone think it's earlier?
Strange lighting due to grow lights in the back room.
    Thanks for your insights!

It’s a Renaissance Revival work/sewing table ca. 1880. So in answer to your question: Yes, it’s pre-1900. Nice piece!

Thanks as always for your thoughtful comments! My plan is to remove some of the old and very dirty shellac to make the burl pop then apply several layers of new shellac and rub it out.
I've been looking for catalogues for J. "G." Reither but with no luck. Anyone know of a site where I might look? Thanks again!
