It has been a while since I posted on here about my swords.

I don't know anything about swords but the Metropolitan Museum of Art's has a huge collection, maybe ask them? The sword in the painting looks the same as the one in the photo.

The met and Christie's have turned me away a few times. Christie's because it's not authenticated and doesn't "fit in a category", met unless I'm trying to donate they give me Das boot

This is a modern painting by Iranian artist Hojjat Shakiba. It uses the following dagger as reference, from the National Museum of Tehran.

Even at a glance I would say yours is a nice decorative reproduction. You can see artifacts of Iranian copper blades here and here.

You posted in r/swords and I agree with their opinion. There's a lot of knowledgeable people over there.

komokwa The Truth is out there...!

    I must agree with @mirana 's findings.....

basing your sword on a new painting......well, that's just not a thing..;)

I, too, know nothing about swords but, to my eyes, your sword does not look genuinely old, it looks deliberately "antiqued". JMHO. :)

ive done a lot of research since reddit, purchased a microscope. After that.... well the patina is not fake. The pitting in the metal.. hard for me to write off as decoration. I just made it through some hard life evens so I'm at this again!

Acetone has no effect. There are 3 clear layers of patina, including red.... that plus the pitting.... this is either real or S tier antiqued

It's a lead, its a uncanny likeness, which is a lead. And leads are things, motivation, to keep seeking :dead:

Truly you're beautiful. I could not find who the artist was. Maybe he has some insight. Thanks!!!

The sword, and the original it was copied from, were shown before in this thread:
    https://www.antiquers.com/threads/a-possible-ancient-sword.76313/

Skyshark would like to believe it is a genuine Achaemenid era ceremonial sword, which it isn't.
The reactions of the Met and Christie's are understandable.

The excellent painting is clearly a modern one. So you have a modern 'lead' to the original genuine sword that has been shown to you before on this very forum. From the original back to the original, means going around in a circle.;)

Sometimes we just have to accept that our nice item is a replica. Nothing wrong with replicas, only with sellers who sell them as genuine period pieces. Unfortunately that is what happened here.

I am sorry that the history of fraud is connected with the legacy of your father, who believed he had a precious artifact from an important period in history. But I hope knowing that you don't own a museum piece illegally will put your mind at rest. You won't be facing any charges, not from the US government, and not from Iran or Afghanistan either.

experts CANNOT authenticate online. Period. I appriciate all inputs but you just don't quite understand how stubborn I am. I have many, many authentic Persian items. I train with these swords daily. Modern top of the line brass replica, aged to perfection, maybe. The gold Akinakes are clearly replicas of SoMeThiNg. Their are 5 of them, 2 mysteriously found in a farm, and broken in half. Most in private collections. A kingly sword, there would only be one. Any blacksmith worth his weight had ONE employer. So there would not be many like it.

But thank you for your opinion, it expands my perspective.

    :pompous:

That golden sword is so unbelievably fake it's not even funny. Who tf besides the most selfish of persians, or decoration, would have a solid gold sword????? you could never use in combat. "ceremony" maybe... But there are several like that one in the musuem, 2x broke. The detail on that one is lazy too. Look at the ram eye on the gold one, then look at mine. Its just a buldge, a dot, on the gold one...... get real bro. I can't ignore detail. The oil painting also shows the detail. Looks way more like mine that ole tiger mouth wide open with tongue out and that tiny head, eye bulge ram on the gold one lollll

I did my best to be polite. I would appreciate it if you would do the same.
Being stubborn doesn't change the facts, it just leads to disappointment and frustration.;)

I am sorry. I'm not trying to insult anyone.. Truly.

I cant stop attempting to get to the bottom of this. I would be irresponsible, especially because of its likeness to a great persons sword, to put this down. IF, big IF, real its important to everyone. I cannot let opinions derail me. However educated and expert they are. Until with certainty, it is not. With facts.

it would not be "illegally". Time lost treasure, no one would own it. But nice "expert" opinion... sheesh man. Just ban me from here cause good lord.
