The link I clicked on said he was Danish, so maybe born there, but worked in the Netherlands. Cute stuff.

It is one of those cases where they got it wrong.;)
In the link below it says he was born on March 26th 1932 in Leiden, which is in Holland, the Netherlands. I didn't post it before because it is in Dutch only:sorry::

Danish and Dutch often get confused, the cultures are very similar. But the name Hans de Jong couldn't be more Dutch if it tried, and the same goes for his art.;)

And while there are quite a few Danish of Dutch origin (mostly descendants of 16th century Dutch who were invited to grow crops for the growing population of Copenhagen), Hans de Jong wasn't one of them.:)

I did wonder. As you said, de Jong is about as Dutch as can be. Links can be unreliable -- even if only mixing up Dutch and Danish!

Never accuse a Canadian of being American if you value your essential organs.

see also New Zealand vs Australia.

:beaver::hilarious: Too right! I remember when I was first across the Pond (50 years ago!) and someone remarked on my "accent," I thought, "It's not me that has the accent, but you!" Thank goodness I didn't say it aloud, LOL!

komokwa The Truth is out there...!

I always wore my maple leaf when travelling Europe !!
& ya....I had a guy tell me that Canadians are just like Americans......& I eviscerated him..................... verbally !!;):woot::woot:

but it's the American who came up to the border in BC....packing a loaded handgun , and stopped by Canadian Customs agents ..... when told that he could not cross into Canada with his hand cannon , said..... he thought Canada was just an extension of the USA......!!!
The customs officers were none too impressed , & sent him packing !!!!

Love those Border Security shows. But it's the food that Asians try to bring into North America. Like, you may not be able to find your hometown delicacies, but you won't starve here.
