I bought 11 pieces of what appears to be Netsuke (at least I think that is what it is).
Can someone take a look and give me a bit more info.
Last experience with this type of collectible wasn't too great.

    I will post in sets.
    First 3 pieces.

They look like resin. Were you told they were carved? And from what material?

Thank you for the additional photographs. Let's see what others have to say.

As I went through them #1 struck me as definitely resin. #2 as possibly ivory but probably resin. #3 definitely ivory.

I'm starting to lean more toward ivory for #2. Some additional clear pix for this one would be helpful.

The first one is resin. The others look like ivory.

First one modern, possibly resin, maybe not but likely is.

Second two look very interesting/good and not resin. Although the second one is oddly shiny. Maybe a shellac or something? They are good pieces though from what I can see, interesting and out of the ordinary subject matter. I’d think they’d have good value, at least 200 each, probably more. That’s if you could access the right buyers. An auction house is really your only bet. eBay would be very risky based on material.

I don’t see them but don’t doubt that you’re right. The surface glossiness really bugs me on all of them. Maybe the owner treated them with something to retard them drying out or something?! Maybe they’ve gotten great at replicating the schreger lines in resin though. The second two almost look too good. For now though I’d imagine they are real and quite good.

I too am looking...and would rather stay out of this ....but.....

the white to cream to white on the head and rosy peach are not what I am used to on a resin carving...

I'm seeing black pin dots , not the resin bubbles I'm familiar with..... I'd say 1980's vintage now matter what it's made of.. which may be ivory...
The other two are ivory and older than the 1st...both good examples...with good carving , images and proper holes... imo.

"The surface glossiness"...... I put off to hot lights....

Maybe it's the lighting in the photo, etc. To me it looks like resin bubbles in the circled areas.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

    Here's a 'blow-up' of the most questionable top/first one.....I don't see bubbles, but I also don't think this one's Ivory.....

I’m more inclined to your belief but I see what Hollyblue was getting at too. I’d vote natural though if I had to. Even though I don’t like the modern painted ones the most recent ones posted are better than any others of the type I’ve seen.
