You can get 18ct plated here, probably higher as well.
And overhere vermeil is only allowed to be called vermeil if the gold is 18ct or higher, so that is also at least 18ct plated.

 

Oddly it didn’t in that case but you make a good point. When you looked really carefully at the right angle you could see the mark had been there. A quick look straight down and you’d miss it though. Must have been 1/10th, a pretty thick layer.
