I have the opportunity to purchase a set of 4 chairs (2 captain type, 2 regular) for $75

Thoughts on value? Google says they can be quite valuable but ???? I don't trust Google, nor Chairish.... They're good quality and will last a long time. THe high-style MCM chairs are worth $$$. Just try finding solid wood now for that price... for one chair.

Not particularly. More like well-made classic chairs.

Not the H-W MCM chairs that are valuable. That said, not a lot of money for good quality chairs to use if you like them. If buying for resale, I would pass.

If I had those in front of me and a truck, I'd probably replace my kitchen chairs with them. For resale...nah.

Thanks for the sound advice, I was indeed looking at them for resale. Online i was seeing some of the really expensive one's so I was wondering if these would be good to flip. Always learning!

I have a dense, 300-page Better Homes & Gardens decorating handbook that my mom bought when she got married in 1960. It is mesmerizing, and instructive. The MCM style that is in demand today was by no means the dominant style. A wacky kind of faux American Colonial was a big trend. Also floral patterns-everywhere, on everything. Jarring color combos, and furniture that defies characterization but looks like it was pulled from the set of All In the Family. These chairs look like yet another trend: a classic style (perhaps Regency here?) that has been merged with modern elements, to give a more updated feel. I think these chairs are a very successful combination, but I don’t know that it is in demand now.

The goshawful brown floral couch and cannonball bed thing...was a Thing. So was faux Spanish Colonial influenced furniture - heavy, ugly dark wood. Glass ceiling lights with amber glass, and red glass and a lot of us call it Bordello style for a reason.(LOL)

I remember the faux Spanish Colonial thing. Weirded me out, even as a child. Today, though, a surprising number of those pieces have found new popularity, precisely because of their exuberant chunkiness. I see them refinished lovingly, or painted, with metallic highlights. It is a wonder.

If it stays out of the landfill, rock on. That furniture was sturdy if heavy, and with a little politeness will remain usable for a good century at least. Unlike flatpack, with its five to ten year shelf life.
