Featured Thrift store art....

Interesting the slight variation of color. Doesn't matter but given her Barbie-esque hair and make-up and the touch of Surrealism in the background, I'd think 1950s.

I was thinking of buying this pastel drawing (size about 46x56cm) dated 1965. I couldn’t figure out the signature. I like the colours and light reflections (make s a pretty picture) Please let me known what you think of it. Skill level of artist? Many thanks

The ballet painting is by Craftint 1956. It came in a kit with 2 other pictures.

 

No. Poor photo. That’s a reflection.

 

I like the pastel. Might be purely decorative in intent but it has good impact. Kind of has a surreal futuristic look to it. I would buy it if the price is right.

A few more to show. Paid a bit more than I usually do for 3 of these. For some reason the one thrift priced a little higher than normal. The other came from a different thrift that is always a little high. All in all, I still think bargains.

This was the cheap one at $7.00. Medium in size, acrylic on canvas. NC contemporary artist, Chris Beacham. Title: The Park, 2011.


This is a large watercolor, signed John W. Pratt. I find a local person who was employed in visual arts that could be him but can find no other works. Maybe a hobby painter. Was $15.00.


This is a large ltd. edition signed lithograph by well respected Chicago area artist, Raymond L. Martin (1930-2011). Title: The Wall. Martin taught at the Art Institute for many years and they hold a number of his works. I think this was the better buy for the same $15.00.




Lastly this is a large watercolor by well-listed artist Win Jones (Winslow larrabee Jones 1932-2017). He was active in IL/WI/FL. This is a fairly early work for him. Title: Rock Shelf, 1968. Signed front and back, it also has the frame makers name shown. I could find no significance to the latter but possibly another artist. Had to pay $30.00 for this one. Slight damage to the mat and some rippling, so I will need to re-mat this.

 

Chris Beacham's The Park, I would definitely find a spot on my walls for this

Me too. I like that.

 

Ironically, I think we are going to hang the Beacham.... at least for awhile. The yellow color is cheery and I like the juxtaposition of the belching smokestack and the serene trees. I don't think it is fine art but it does strike a chord.

 

Not sure that's a belching smokestack. To my eye, looks like a break in the trees in which the sky is visible. (It's at the end of the only row seen by the viewer from head on.) A bit Rubin vase-y.

Guess I would have expected the sky to be blue but you are probably right. The artist doesn't seem to be the belching smokestack type ..... Lol!

 

sheesh......there's no smokestack there......
the artist has you standing right between two lines of trees, and what you see is the tree line part , and open sky !

or at least.........that's what I see......

 

It also bothered me that the smokestack was not completely vertical. I can't help it if that is what I saw first and, once in mind, I could not see anything else. I am not sure why the sky morphs from dark to light without any transition...... and why does the dark area extend so far up into the sky? Almost makes me want to repaint it so that I no longer see a smokestack.... LOL!
