Obviously missing a section. What remains is 4 inches, not including the partial clasp. It was at an estate sale in a box with broken beads, etc. I think they were using it for crafts. There wasn't much at the sale, but this came home with me. I don't think the metal is gold.

Can anyone make a guess as to age, just based on what is left? No idea what I'm doing with it. Would like to repurpose it possibly. Curious about age, etc.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Don't know age, although would think it is isn't an antique. But what do I know?

I love the colors of the stones, even if they are not real stones.

Lovely. Exactly the type of piece I love to pick up. I find all sorts of treasures!

I think it’s Victorian or Edwardian.

Doesn't look like gold to me either, but if those jump rings are soldered shut best to get really curious. Soldered jump rings are a good sign.

Yes, the jump rings are soldered. If I had to guess I would say some age, of course I have it in the hand. Just realized the stones (either glass or amethyst?) have kind of an interesting setting with the point down:

I am seeing some verdigris in one spot, but you never know if that came off of something else. I wonder if the remaining half clasp tells us anything?

I realized how dirty this is under the setting. I'd be free to soak in light dish soap/water, right? Nothing is glued.

I have a negligée necklace where the stone also has a point on back that sticks much further out than the setting. Might be a good sign for 1900ish.

A use could be to remove the setting/stone with the clasp and then add two chains to ether ends to make a new bracelet or a choker. Maybe a longer necklace if it was short enough to sit right?

Doesn’t strike me as sold gold but I’d definitely want to test it before doing anything with it. Pretty!

Older than I thought, would indicate more likely to be real amethyst stones? I know they could still be glass.

There is an old test for amethyst.
Submerge the stone face down in a white bowl of water. Like a cereal bowl with 1" or less of water.
Look for color zoning, or subtle striping.
Low tech, but it seems to work!

    It's a pretty thing!

Thanks Stracci. Checking back, I did the water test. I'm thinking these are glass, but will say that the edges were lighter than the center (but couldn't that just be that the center has thicker material making it look darker?) I did not see any subtle striping.

Also tested the metal for grins, and not gold. Guessing that the stones are glass.
