Lucy-Beautiful pieces.I can mail you a drop of Simichrome for the crucial Bakelite test ? The experts here have mentioned it.

 

All she needs is baking soda and a q-tip, unless simichrome works on red. As far as I know it's not reliable. I'd stick to a damp q-tip dunked in baking soda. Dirt cheap and ubiquitous. (take dunked -tip and rub the plastic hard. Baklelite turns the q-tip yellow/brown and if you do it next to your nose raises a stink like no other.) Personally I don't have much hope that it's bakelite, but you never know.

But that blue necklace...Czech glass beads for sure. 20s. Neiger?

I have other pink silver polish I can try & I will also do the baking soda test.

The bangle may well not be Bakelite but something about the feel of it made me wonder. The lines cut into each edge look to be carved & are all slightly different. I don't mind either way because I really like it & will wear it.

 

I'd test inside the carvings then, just in case. It may be real even if it doesn't test, the red being notoriously iffy. I'd wear it too. In the UK you're more likely to hit Neiger than I am here, so one of the experts needs to weigh in..

Meanwhile, when people are looking for "the expert" I'm one of those looking around for the person they mean.

This was only a dollar, but it's special to me because it features the actual crock pot my Dad used making food for us growing up, and that I still use.

 

That's awesome ! That kind of connection's priceless.I found a plastic piece from a Marx play set I had in the 50's,it's one of the clearer early memories I've got. It's only worth $2-$3,they're not rare,I'm thinking abt buying it.

A wise antique dealer friend once told me people don't buy things, they buy memories. That holds true for me. My fascination with jewelry started in my childhood; I was a sickly child, and when confined to bed, my mom gave me her jewelry box and its contents to.play with. I also loved my Barbies, so I collect vintage ones now, too.

 

It's why I collected blades.....a childhood memory of my 1st one....so strong I can smell it !!

 

I collected lighters for the same reason......plus fire..is power !

I got my 1st one in grade 4 or 5...... and burned part of Linda's brained pony tail ....in the middle of class !
Boy , I caught shit for that !!!
Not as bad though, as when I rigged a pack of matches to set off a firecracker outside the classroom window !!

I’m very partial to a drop of genever. Those blue beads are Neiger. Red might be Rousselet.

That had crossed my mind too but the clasp isn't typical of Rousselet necklaces.
