What type of stone are these bookends?

I doubt these bookends are antique, but I didn't know where else to post them. A previous owner hand-wrote "malacite" (misspelled) on the bottom piece of felt, but they don't look like malachite to me. I bought them several years ago at an estate sale or thrift store. They're very heavy--each approx 4" square.

I uploaded the photo to google lens and got examples of jasper, marble, nephrite jade, serpentine beryl, green moss agate, and verdite.

"Malacite" is malachite in Slovak so many not be a mis-spelling. That's what it looks like to my eye. Uncut and unpolished. Let's see what others think.

It looks like malachite to me, it comes in several shades and in its natural state its mixed with other minerals.

I have two very large and heavy chunks that are polished on the top but raw underneath.

The photo needs better brighter lighting,it looks more like verdite. Although it could be a malachite/azurite combination.

I really appreciate everyone's comments, and interesting that several think they are malachite. Thank you to Debora for pointing out that "Malacite" is malachite in Slovak. Davey, your chunks of malachite look like what I think malachite should look like--mine seem much darker even in bright sunlight and have a lot of black--or is that because of the way they were cut?

I also appreciate Hollyblue's opinion that they look more like verdite or a combination of malachite/azurite. Here are more photos with the best lighting I could find today. They do have kind of a glass-like polish on only one side--the 3rd photo is the only one that shows a reflection. They could use a good polishing as komokwa suggested, but I think I'd have to take them to a lapidary shop, or is there something I could use at home to polish them?

Do you live close to a university with a geology department? They might be very kind to take a look & give you a definitive answer. They might also be able to help you out with the polishing part.

That's a good idea. There's a university with a geology dept about 30 minutes away. I'll see if someone there might be able to help.

Alas I don't think they're Eilat, the stone I"m used to seeing in green and black and kind of like malachite. If they were, you'd be sitting on a fat stack of money. I think they're some sort of malachite matrix too.

    I'm not seeing the azurite.

Thank you, Obb, for mentioning cerium oxide paste. I forgot that I already have some...you might have recommended it for polishing an opal that I posted here a few years ago, so I ordered some on Amazon. I even remember where I put it, so will try that on the bookends. Thank you again.
