This vase is very heavy and measures approx. 17.5 inches. The enamel is very thick. I usually don't like this style but I really like this vase. I am assuming this is probably Japanese? Does anyone recognize it or can confirm region? Is this thick enameling considered moriage? Thank you!!!!

I get into trouble when I call stuff like this moriage. Moriage has more of a pastry look. I think this would be called "slip" decoration. Maybe "raised slip"?

Not moriage and also agree that this looks pretty new. Maybe Chinese in some other style. Kind of has an Iznik look to the pattern but everything else about it is wrong for Iznik.

I'd have figured new-ish and Chinese, but I know jack about modern pottery.

    Isn't all 'slip' raised?

In general yes, although barbotine can be inset a bit like cloisonne.

Very interesting - pottery isn't my strong suit and this house we are staging and pricing is showing how little I know :playful:. Judging from how heavy and tall it is with no wear, I would consider it contemporary art pottery. Someone will buy it!
