IMG_0148.jpeg IMG_0150.jpeg IMG_0151.jpeg IMG_0149.jpeg I bought this beautiful pastel portrait by Charlotte Blakeney Ward at auction.

I have had to remove it from the frame as the glass was broken.

On the back board to the frame is a pencil inscription “Jennifer daughter of the Hon Mr & Mrs John B……

followed by the artist’s signature and what is probably her address.

Charlotte was a well known society artist but I just can’t get the surname of the hon Mr and Mrs John

There was a storage label on the frame marked LADY BETHEY

    Any ideas?

My eyes might be influenced by the "Lady Bethy" info, but I read 'John Bethy'

Beathy is a very uncommon surname. Are you sure about the "Lady Beathy"? Would/could you post a photograph of the storage label?

So, the family was likely based in Surrey.

Looks like a sibling. She's identified as Jennifer Jane Parker but the dates can't be right. 1857-1918. This portrait is post-World War I.

Nice piece John, she's fairly well known & did some beautiful work. She did a portrait of the well known poet Robinson Jeffers (can't find) & suffragette Mary Collins & William Finlay (2nd Viscount,Middle Temple Bencher). Mary_Collin_by_C._Blackeney_Ward_1924.jpg William Finlay.JPG

"The Honorable Mr. & Mrs." is an odd honorific.

She certainly looks like the same girl. A bit odd though to have two portraits done at the same age-ish. (I could see once as child, once when out in society or young married.

I thought the same thing earlier, but doesn't one have blue eyes and the other brown?
