These were in my parents attic. My Dad said they were to hold the bedspread at the end of the bed. They slid under the mattress and you slid them out and the 2 legs stayed under the mattress and the other was on the floor. That way you could keep the bedspread off of the bed if you didn't need it. I "google lensed" and it came up as a pants stretcher.
I dunno 'bout dat! Seems the thru-wire would preclude that use...not to mention the three-legged nature of the assembly...an' the extreme taper of the 'legs'. But I've been wrong before...
