I like the full detail and impressive craftsmanship of this. I see many examples online but this one seems to show more detail than most (a complete traditional Japanese garden) It is maybe 60’s or so? Is the lettering perhaps the craftsman’s signature? It’s 61cmx61. Thanks

 

I picked up this original framed 1888 Bird's Eye View of Prosser,WA (Washington Territory back then) at an estate sale.There's lot's of repros,the original 19th century litho printings have a bluish cast to them.

It might be the original artist's signature. Copper embossing was a Thing for a while. The original artwork for this could have been pretty old.

I need to upload today's haul pix at some point. While my sister was at the hospital twiddling her thumbs waiting for them to cut Mom loose, Ruth was politely hitting the jackpot in a small local charity shop or two.

 

Definitely do not mention that or you're getting the duty next time!

 

No fear! I've done plenty of time in hospitals; I don't need any more.

My hoods crawling w/ pickers,near a good-sized city of cash hungry humanoids-makes for an interesting challenge though.

I used to. A church thrift was a gold mine. Rich older congregation and some shop people who didn't always have a clue. Got a Sheffield plate teapot once in there for $3. Used it as a Chanukkah present later that year. The Pandemic closed it.

The place I found the goodies was literally on the wrong side of the tracks. It's a thrift attached to a soup kitchen in the worst part of town. The ladies who run the shop also price things by what they know they can get instead of "what it's worth", prefering a fast nickel over a glacial dime. Most pickers won't go into the area. Most times I don't find much, but when I do...bingo.

 

While I was out today...Mr Nate would have been proud! Hit the Ill Will and found a Dala chicken, paper label and all. Wasn't planning on going into a hospital thrift, it's very overpriced, but I did. A Warner circle pin and some Don Lucas sterling earrings later...($3 each) I saw two bears on the way out. One Steuben glass and one Royal Copenhagen, $9 for the pair. THen the scrimshawed tusk/tooth started shouting "ME TOO"...OKFINE. You too. Signed Fine, AAMOF.

Finally got where I was going and was nose to nose with an Israeli Lapid MCM vase and a big chunk of Rosenthal. Nabbed those and the ceramic fairy light. It's a souvenir of Monticello, or based on designs used at same. A little further down the table was a cement-filled sterling candlestick that's got a date with the scrapper. (damaged)

Also sitting there was a pair of candlesticks. Could they be??? They looked good, but the only mark I saw was "metall". They didn't look like plate and they're hollow, and not made like plate. Then on the lower part of the sticks.. 835 and what looks like a German mark. $3 each. The woven thing is actually nested baskets. No idea where they came from, but the set was $2. The bases are rectangular.

Spent about $40 total, and the candlesticks have a combined weight of over a kilo. A decent chunk of that is the base, but I'm guessing $300+ in scrap weight alone.

 

Wow-That's 9 things total found-that's a heck of a run these days.Maybe there's hope for Ill Will yet ?-folks seem to find stuff there in other parts of the country,round here it's scrubbed.

Only one piece from an Ill Will. I know another picker went right past it, not having a bunch of boardies in his ear. Probably thought it was Mexican. The jackpot came from an on-premises hospital thrift and one literally on skid row.

That said, it sure looks like them. Mark looks right too.

Fancy silver to fly totally under the radar! They probably looked at the bottom and saw zilch and figured it was plated.

 

without looking above I was going to say those candlesticks look more hoard worthy , than melt worthy ....... nice pair !

 

Those candlelabras are spectacular. Liberace would be jealous. Congratulations!

 

Not my usual thrift store find. Have wanted one of these large size Weller jardinieres for a long time. Was able to find it locally from a dealer/friend. Not cheap but for about half what I would expect to pay on the open market. Now to find the matching pedestal..... a much harder quest.

 

Just in time for spring!
