Featured glassies, how do assess crystal? glass goblet

Hi folks

this was one solitary glass goblet i found in a charity shop for a pound.
it stuck out like a sore thumb in terms of quality compared to all the others that were there

how do i assses how good a quality it is, as there are so many alike in such varying prices

no marks or sigs at all

think relatively modern

if its low value, id be more than happy to keep it and use

any info or thoughts appreciated

 

Clarity of glass, quality of cut. Does it have a lovely clear singing ring to it? Does it sit nicely balanced on the flat of your hand?

 

thanks obb. just worked out how to make it sing, didn't realize it had to placed on a hard surface

beautifully balanced, the singing sounds like an incoming train with both high and low notes

quite impressed with that !

 

Did you try an image search on Replacements?

 

Hi marie, yeah i've tried, but everything looks pretty similar. i thought the base would give it away but looks like there are several makers with the same

from what ive looked at Edinburgh looks the closet

 

the weight is quite impressive, quite looking forward to drinking from it

does that mean i can only drink water from it and not wine ?

 

You can also ping with it sitting flat on the palm. If you hold the stem it dampens the resonance so you don’t hear the ringing.
