I don't remember Britnell's art gallery, but I regularly went to the book store decades ago. It made the news when they closed.

Clarification needed: So you're not the one that took it to AR? If not, that note may just indicate that the writer saw a similar painting on that AR episode, not that your actual painting was appraised on the show. Just a thought.

    Hands are difficult, aren't they?!

Ha I saw the OP painting and immediately thought "Well that's a copy of something for sure." Debora for the find, of course! :D

sgt4eva I'm not sure you'll find the artist listed as the painting looks like the work of an amateur. That said, people do like large oil paintings as decor so they can be worth decent money. I would be surprised if it was more than 1500 CAD as it's an unknown or little known (currently?) artist of this level.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

It seems that much of the information on the handwritten note on the back is incorrect. Not sure why it says "Translation" at the top, either...

Unfortunately, the 2000 Toronto Antiques Roadshow (actually took place in 1999 but televised in 2000) is no longer available online. There was a "Vintage" version of the show televised in 2014, with updated prices, but that full show is also not online anymore. There are some individual appraisals online from hours 1 and 2 from Toronto, but none of them resemble appraisal details as written on the back.

It was written in poor english with spelling errors on the back, this is just that version but cleaned up.

Yes i tried looking through their archives and theyve all been deleted or just never uploaded. Unfortunate as it was a fun show and those episodes may be lost forever

Oddly, if you can't find certain videos on the main AR WGBH site, I have found episodes and clips on their WETA affiliate. Toronto Vintage (2014 revisit of 1999) is here (scroll down for the episode broken into clips). As Figtree mentioned, this piece doesn't appear to be in that episode. It's possible it was not filmed and only verbally appraised...or was filmed, but not used in the final cut.
