Mystery Rattan Bamboo Canteen ???

Once again, another flea market find that I have never seen anything like it before. I think it may be some type of tribal canteen? It’s about 14 inches tall and appears to be quite old. The carrying strap is also rather odd? Any clues on age or origin???

Ara palang is a bamboo container used by the Bhutanese as a wine container for many centuries. It is decorated with woven Yula and stitched well with cane thread on top and bottom.
