Native american rug?

I purchased this at an estate sale this evening on a whim. I think it might be Native American, or at least trying to be. The reason I say this is because they had a bunch of southwest items throughout the house. I personally have never seen a NA rug up close so I have no clue what to look for. Any thoughts about this rug?

 

it bears the traditional colors of the Coast Salish weavings.......but the design escapes me.......

It looks like a Navajo piece, woven in a diamond twill pattern. @Taupou has posted several times on the distinctive features of Navajo weaving, so you could do a search for her entries to read about their unique technique. She also provided a link to this website that has good illustrations -

It does look like the diamond twill patterns. They mostly look like saddle blankets, and not rugs. I will have to take a look at the construction and see if it fits the guidelines. I will try to do that tomorrow. Thanks for the info!
