Grabbed this today. Antique jaspeware jug with a lozenge rg mark. Strangely it has no spout so maybe a bit messy pouring it. Maybe it was made before the spout was invented. it's glossy rather than Matt so I'm guessing it's Dudson.

If I'm reading the diamond correctly, the date is July 8, 1878. The only design registered on that date (that I can find) is Wedgwood Etruria (#323132)

Thanks MOS. Well it would figure if it was Wedgwood. On closer inspection not sure if it is jaspeware or if the highlights are part of the original casting and in high relief, then painted.

It isn’t Wedgwood. The colour, body, glaze and the rest are all wrong. It’s sprigged, but not jasperware. It’s perhaps possible that the maker was using Wedgwood sprigs, I suppose.

Can't disagree. Plus it's not signed. Maybe the entry in that list is incorrect. Someone registered a design on that date. I can't see it being a fake. Just finding the shape online would probably be enough.

It might be that Wedgwood registered the sprig design and someone else then used it, so had to use the registry mark. If that makes sense.

Absolutely not a fake, just not Wedgwood.

I read somewhere that wedgwood put a mark on all their stuff other than some of the really early things. I guess that leaves us in limbo. Still considering Dudson as an option then. Thanks for input guys.

Aye. I was thinking Dudson too but couldnt find a close match. Guess I should keep searching. Thanks for taking a look.

There’s a facebook group dedicated to sprigged jugs. Worth a try.

Very niche, and super knowledgeable. They talk other sprigged wares too.

Yeah, they know their stuff. The other company that made many sprigged jugs was Brownfield. But, usually these jugs do not have the super shiny glaze like OP's.

Same shape and reg mark. Cool. I wonder if that's the same reference MOS made above. Thank you.

Yes. MOS listed the incorrect number, the Mintons number, in their post.
